Mernda Cricket Club – Senior Coach Wanted

The Mernda Cricket Club is affiliated with the Diamond Valley Cricket Association (DVCA) and requires the services of a playing or non-playing senior coach for the 2018/19 cricket season and beyond.

The Mernda Cricket Club is based in the fast-growing suburb of Mernda, approx. 30km north of the Melbourne CBD. The Club was formed in 1914 and has had much on-field success at all senior levels with as many as 17 senior Premierships since 1980.

The Club is the tenant at Woodland Waters Recreation Reserve, a $10 million facility that was funded by Federal, State and Local Government and completed in 2015. The Woodland Waters Recreation Reserve facility will provide any applicant with state of the art training means to work with when developing game plans and harnessing the skills of the playing group; with two grounds, premier training facilities, including full power/lighting, as well as an architecturally designed pavilion. This development has enabled the Club to secure our growth and success for the next decade and beyond.

2018/19 will see the club field 4 senior teams in Money Shield, B Grade, E Grade (all 80 over, 4 piece ball grades) and F Grade (68 overs, 2 piece ball), as well as Under 12 teams, Under 14 teams and Under 16 teams spread across multiple skill levels in each age group. We also run a very successful and highly popular in2CRICKET program for boys and girls aged 5 – 10 and Modified U10 teams for that step between in2CRICKET and competitive cricket.

The Club is a family orientated one, based in a young community and we pride ourselves on providing a safe and family friendly environment for all players, their families, members and community supporters.

The club will provide any successful applicant with a stable off-field set up, capable of managing all off-field expectations and encourages any well-organised and motivated coach to apply for the position.

Any applicant must display the following attributes to be considered for the position:

  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Good organisational skills in regards to pre-season planning, senior training, drills, delegation to assistant coaches, etc.
  • An ability to improve the cricketing skills of all players, especially younger players
  • An ability to set and achieve goals with the playing group

  • The flexibility to be able to attend all club functions and meetings where invited
  • A Level 1 coaching accreditation is preferred but NOT essential

 Traditions Continue

Welcome to Season 2016/17 Mernda Family!

As we get ready to embark on the year ahead, let’s take a minute to reflect on a #FeelGoodFriday moment for our club…

This weekend will be a very special one for our Club and for one father-son combo in particular – Paul and James Baker.

With Jimmy making his senior debut this week, he’ll join his old man on the field for the very first time. This would have to be one of Bakes’ proudest moments in a career that we could go on all day about! Here’s a picture of Jimmy being presented with his Mernda cap by Club Legend, Jack Gleeson.

These two will join previous father-son combos who have played together for our great club over the years including Colin, Jordan and Callum Dean; Russ, Brent and Luke Bailey; Jack and Brendan Gleeson; Mark and Cooper Perrin; Glen, Mitch and Braydon Peterson; Stephen and Brenton Morrison; Kevin and Jarmyn Marshall; Murray and Dayne Kellett; Rick, Tom and Chris Deayton; Steve, Matt and Brad Czerny and Vinny and Brian Hanlon (sorry if we missed anyone!).

That list of names just goes to show what a rich and valuable history our great club and we’re sure it makes everyone proud to call yourself part of it!

Let’s not forget all our other Mernda debuts this week either: Josh Nixon, Akila Isanka, Maddy Bisht, Dammika Parera, Brendan Hodges, Aaron Greenough and Michael Talbot.

Good luck to everyone and GO MERNDA!
