Mernda Cricket Club – Senior Coach Wanted

The Mernda Cricket Club is affiliated with the Diamond Valley Cricket Association (DVCA) and requires the services of a playing or non-playing senior coach for the 2018/19 cricket season and beyond.

The Mernda Cricket Club is based in the fast-growing suburb of Mernda, approx. 30km north of the Melbourne CBD. The Club was formed in 1914 and has had much on-field success at all senior levels with as many as 17 senior Premierships since 1980.

The Club is the tenant at Woodland Waters Recreation Reserve, a $10 million facility that was funded by Federal, State and Local Government and completed in 2015. The Woodland Waters Recreation Reserve facility will provide any applicant with state of the art training means to work with when developing game plans and harnessing the skills of the playing group; with two grounds, premier training facilities, including full power/lighting, as well as an architecturally designed pavilion. This development has enabled the Club to secure our growth and success for the next decade and beyond.

2018/19 will see the club field 4 senior teams in Money Shield, B Grade, E Grade (all 80 over, 4 piece ball grades) and F Grade (68 overs, 2 piece ball), as well as Under 12 teams, Under 14 teams and Under 16 teams spread across multiple skill levels in each age group. We also run a very successful and highly popular in2CRICKET program for boys and girls aged 5 – 10 and Modified U10 teams for that step between in2CRICKET and competitive cricket.

The Club is a family orientated one, based in a young community and we pride ourselves on providing a safe and family friendly environment for all players, their families, members and community supporters.

The club will provide any successful applicant with a stable off-field set up, capable of managing all off-field expectations and encourages any well-organised and motivated coach to apply for the position.

Any applicant must display the following attributes to be considered for the position:

  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Good organisational skills in regards to pre-season planning, senior training, drills, delegation to assistant coaches, etc.
  • An ability to improve the cricketing skills of all players, especially younger players
  • An ability to set and achieve goals with the playing group
  • Experience in team selection at all levels
  • The willingness to embrace and develop the club’s on and off field culture
  • A strong passion for the game of cricket
  • A proven playing/coaching record at Premier Cricket, Sub-District or any VMCU accredited clubs
  • The flexibility to be able to attend all club functions and meetings where invited
  • A Level 1 coaching accreditation is preferred but NOT essential

Please note: Remuneration and length of contract will be negotiated, based on the level of experience and playing record of each applicant.

 ATTENTION SENIOR PLAYERS

The club just wants to take a second of your time to say a big thanks to all the guys that have attended our pre season sessions so far this year. Across the 4 sessions, we’ve had 35 blokes train including about 6 new faces and we’re already noticing some big steps being taken. We’re wrapped to have those 6 guys on board for the season ahead too, but it also means that we’re down a little on the 50+ guys that played last season! More or less, the point is that there are about 20 blokes we haven’t seen yet and we want you boys to start making the effort. Doing that will ONLY make us better.

We’ve made sure that all the info you need as far as times, venues, etc are readily available through the website, through Facebook and through handouts that JD has put together. We’ve also stressed the importance of downloading TeamApp from the AppStore or Google Play to make sure any info we need out there; gets delivered straight to your phone. It means you don’t have to go and look for it! The app is free, all you need to do is sign up and search for Mernda Cricket Club. The rest is absolutely straight forward and takes care of it’s self. Again, thanks to the nearly 50 players, parents and supporters that have signed on! If you need help with it, get to training Wednesday night where there will be plenty of blokes who can show you how.

Again though, from JD all the way down, our main focus is to get numbers to training. We want you to make a commitment to yourself, to your team mates, to get to at least 1 session a week, more would be great if possible. If you’re playing footy, just pop in to show your face. If you’re injured, pop in to show your face. We don’t expect you to train every night, but making the effort to get around the place will be more than enough and a big boost for the rest of the boys. That’s everyone from the 1st XI down to the 4th XI and beyond. We want to be better, we need to be better and that will start with every player taking some responsibility for that and starting to work on it now.

 Season 2014-15: A Fresh Start!

We had our AGM tonight and, as a result, the Mernda Cricket Club has a new President.

After 3 seasons in the job, Shane McCarter announced that he was standing down to allow the club to move in a different direction. We thank Shane for the work he has done in his time as President, including working with the City of Whittlesea and the DVCA to ensure our new home at Woodland Waters is of a very high quality, Cricket Victoria endorsed standard and is ready for an easy transition from Schotters Rd in the very near future.

As one President departs, we can welcome Colin Dean to the position! Colin has a fantastic history in the job, seeing the club to a Money Shield Premiership and overseeing our first Barclay Shield flag in 2008/09. Col brings a passion to the position that is simply unmatched and we can't wait for him, his Vice President Anthony Meek  and senior coach Jamie Davis to take us forward in to season 2014/15.

Other positions to be filled on the night are as follows:

Secretary: Shane McCarter

Treasurer: Callum Dean

Committee: David Chesterton, Stephen Solyom, Greg Simmonds, Jasmine Davies, Justin Mercuri, Stuart Wright, Jamie Davis, Nathan McDonald and Brendan Gleeson.

We're really excited by the names mentioned above working together to bring the club in to a new era, on and off field.

Go Mernda!
